Thanks for Everything!

The other day I got see a movie that I've been wanting to see for a loooooooong time now. It's a fabulously campy movie called, "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar"

I'll let the trailer explain it all.

LoL! This was such a good movie! John Leguzamo makes such a great girl. So convincing.

I feel a little bit more fulfilled now that I've seen it. :)

true story

Random post! YEAH!

Like a boss . . .

Anyway.

I have ceramics class today but I finished all of my bowls last class so I dont know what my teacher's gonna want us do. I don't really feel like going to class (because of the rain). I should glaze my mugs but I can do that outside of class. I think I'm going to bring my Annotated Mona Lisa with me so I can read in class. I need to put my nose to the grindstone but I have no time! The PRAXIS II is on Saturday morning and I still have the other half of the book to read!

For anyone who doesn't know the PRAXIS II is testing on art, art history, art technique and everything inbetween. My teacher says its a really easy test. But I bought the Annotated Mona Lisa anyway. It's a book that sums up Western art history and explains certain styles and techniques pretty well and goes through everything by movement.

Speaking of art history . . . Even though the Annotated Mona Lisa says its art history, its really only WESTERN art. Europe, a little of africa and north american art. And then in my architecture class, even though its a generic architecture class, it only covers WESTERN architecture. Uh . . . WHat about the rest of the world?

I also need to read this other book I bought, about drawing with children. At least the first chapter so that when I tutor tomorrow I'll have some help on putting my lesson together. The book gives a different perspective on drawing and breaks it down so that someone can teach anyone or themself how to draw.

This is what I woke up to this morning.

Sophie (dog) and Riley are two peas in a pod. They spend every moment together and it is adorable. Unfortunately, Riley keeps thinking that the dog food is for her too, so I have to keep picking her up and moving her to the cat food. The other cats are fine with her, though with Annie it's more like she tolerates Riley. Tigger is kind of an asshole to everyone, but he does play with her sometimes. Riley did a good job on her first vet visit ever. She didn't make a peep in the carrier and let the vet poke and prod at her with only a bit of squirming. And amazingly, despite being born under a shed and living there for the first 10 weeks of her life, she was negative for everything. Life is good.

She's teething right now though, so she chews on everything. Argh.

I also found one of the first drawings I submitted onto my very first dA account ever (no one who knows me now knew me on it, thank god), and even though it was just 2004, it was amazingly bad. I mean, it's cool to see the improvement but gjfhjkghjfhjd SO EMBARASSING. I might try to redraw it, but omg that was so bad whhyyyy sob sob

Michelin commercial 'heavily influenced' by Gorillaz song

A recently released Michelin commercial (posted on Youtube 6th October) that is currently showing on US tv stations is 'heavily influenced' by Gorillaz' song Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head. Listen out for a Dennis Hopper soundalike, extremely similar music and a similar 'story'. Check out the video below:-

sick honors

I'm sick.

It started last night with a cough, and I woke up this morning feeling like a small furnace and hacking up mucus. Also a killer headache. I took some dayquil and some vitamins and headed out to class because I couldn't afford to miss Tin's class, but he ended up sending me home. Now I'm drinking orange juice and gnawing on a cold-eeze every now and then.

The thing that sucks is now I feel ok, but I know I'm still sick. It's just all the stuff I'm on keeping the symptoms down. I actually wish I was in class now. :/

Also, I got into the Honors studio for next semester. So did Sarah and Crystal, so that's awesome. only I think 12 people get in out of those who apply.

I guess I should go get some rest. Even if I'm kinda wired.

[Otakon] Holy hell! I'm full up!

That's right. I just had four people tell me that they were interested in rooming with me, bringing the total to 10! Needless to say, I'm not accepting any more roommates at this time.

The current list stands at:

Ash Donadeo
Sandy Barnes
Waffles
Keila
Keila Boyfriend
Intraventus
Intraventus Boyfriend
sharkninja
sharkninja sister
Me

July is a long way away, so if any of you on this list are unable to make the con, please tell me as soon as you are able. Canceling at the last minute (like what happened with Nekocon) earns the instant wrath of the Bitch Kitty.

E-mail is your best bet. You can also send me a message via AIM (TigressWWA) even when I'm not online. My cell number is also available upon request.

Ganked from [info]stitchedmoon

FIRST: If you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.
SECOND: Tag eight sexy people. Don't refuse to do that like a pansy.

Who sleeps in bed next to you?
My oldest girl cat, Annie, sleeps under my right arm. Dog, Sophie, sleeps as close to my head as she can get on my left. I don't know where Riley sleeps, though.

What did you last eat?
I made grilled cheese. Boring, I know. D:

What kind of books do you read?
Anything, really. I'll try reading anything besides romance novels and Young Adult fiction (which is mostly because the writing styles absolutely horrid. Completely legitimate authors insist on dumbing down their writing for YA books). I also avoid vampire books as a general rule now, what with the annoying romanticism of vampires in popular fiction these days. :|

If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
Still here, in my house, but alone. D:

What's really creepy?
Shota. I don't like shota, at all. I mean, it is creepy kinda, but it's mostly just something I am really not a fan of in general. I don't find much creepy, at least nothing that I can think of off the top of my head.

Name one odd item within five feet of you.
Um. This old SoBe bottle that I filled with water a long time ago, and then I dropped in a couple drops of red ink and watched it swirl around until the water finally turned red-pink. o_o I never got around to emptying it, so.. yep.

What's your current fandom / obsession / addiction?
I dunno. Working on NaNo, I guess. I am kind of boring lately.

What did you really want to do today that you didn't?
Draw or paint. Too unmotivated.

What are you most excited for?
I don't have anything to be excited for these days.

What websites do you always visit when you go online?
Gmail, devART, LJ, Facebook, Hype Machine. And then webcomics on days that they update. I have a Twitter client, so I'M ALWAYS ON.

What was the last thing you bought?
I treated myself to a chai when I broke 10K in NaNo.

If you could have any pet, what would it be?
I want a Corgi. D: Or a St. Bernard. Or a Ragdoll cat.

Your past life: Tell me about it.
I had a dream where in a past life, I was a performer or something in the late 1800's or early 1900's, who did acrobatics or something. idk.

What do you want right this minute, off the top of your head?
Oil paints. New clothes. Drawing table.

Where is the place you like to return to in order to calm down / relax / etc.?
When I was trying community college when it was still nice and warm out, and I'd panic about classes, instead of going to class I would drive in the farthest parking lot by the astronomy tower (that was only open at night) because no one would park back there. And the whole parking lot is surrounded by the woods and nature trails, and I'd sit in my car with the windows rolled down, listening to music, and I'd draw or read.

In general, though, I just like the house being empty and being alone.

How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
I never really liked Tootsie Pop's. Dum-Dums are awesome.

What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I want a hug and I want to be able to talk about how I'm really feeling, instead of internalizing every negative emotion. I wish I could ask for help.

Are there any bits of childhood that you miss?
I miss not worrying about anything.

Say something to the person who tagged you.
Why are you so nice to me omg D:

I tag everyone because I am cruel and unusual.

so many interesting classes

looking at what to register for next semester, there's so many classes I want to take, and I don't know if I should due to overload.

Here's what I'm most likely taking next semester:

MUST take this semester:
Digital Drawing
Sequential imaging

Electives:
Imagery for Scifi and fantasy
intro into glass working kiln

I don't know if I can get into the glass working class with it being out of our dept, but crafts people seem nicer than the fine arts kids, so we'll see. If not, here's other art electives I'm eyeballing:

Graphic Design: Gender and Identity
KI: Critical issues in the media

And here's just some general classes that really interest me:

Psychology and religious experience
Human sexuality
Sociology of deviant behavior
Sociology of sex and gender
Gender and the body

I'd REALLY like to take at least one of these this semester, but here's the thing:
I'm applying for Honors Studio. If I make it in, my schedule is all fucked. Now, they can shove me in another class if honors clashes with one I'm registered for, but only for this dept I'm pretty sure. Not to mention classes like human sexuality only have one class and teacher.

Also, if I make it into honors, that's five art classes, and an academic class on top of that would end up getting neglected and I wouldn't enjoy it. It might, MIGHT also hit over 18 credits, and I'd be charged for that. But I think you have to take like, 8 classes to do that or something.

I don't know. x_x I hate planning my schedule around a class I might not be in. What a pain.

Party ova here! Party ova there!

Yay for conventions!

Let's start with Thursday. I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert that night. And, as always, it was great! Fantastic! Stupendus! And all that. They did the same narrative that they've been doing for the past couple of years but that's ok because it's my favorite. They also played songs from their new album Night Castle. The only disappointment I had with them was the violinist. Usually it's a guy (can't remember his name) that I've seen every year but this year it was some chick. But she definitly filled the shoes in a very bad ass way.

If you don't know who TSO is here's the promo for their 2009 tour.

the spoils

(my loot from nekocon)

Back from Nekocon 12. It was better than last years by far, and for the most part, I enjoyed myself.

Friday:
We got into our room at 2, and promptly headed to the convention hall to check out the dealers room and artist's ally. We ended up eating at Hooters, this being my first time at one (sheltered me is sheltered). I had some omnom worthy fried pickles. I wouldn't mind eating there again. The food is actually good, and their beer selection is nice.

We went to some panels, but the one of merit was the art of Japanese rope bondage one. The panel host gave a brief lecture on the origins of shibari, and then showed a few different basic harnesses and binds. The diamond and tortoise shell ones were really lovely. His two female models were lovely people themselves, and the whole thing, despite being a form of bondage, felt very relaxed and even light hearted. There were lewd jokes of course, but he also brought up some really lovely concepts. He asked one of the models how she felt when she was wrapped, and she said it felt like a permanent hug. Just a loving, lasting embrace. He also brought up how everyone looks good in rope, and how he's used the shibari to make people see how beautiful they really are. He said he did one young lady up in the rope, and when she saw herself in the mirror, she cried. So despite what might superficially look like some kind of kink or way to get off, it can be very beautiful, and even help people. It's a nice thing to think about. :B

Saturday:
Breakfast buffet, nom. More panels, and i bought my EVA movie. Sarah got me the EVA 01 figure as a birthday/Christmas gift. We went to one panel called Women in Anime. There was some good talk going on, but only when the audience disagreed with the panel hostess. She was the type of woman who played the victim of sexism type. She said things like "you never see an average woman as the lead of an anime who gets anything done without a man". To which I brought up almost EVERY movie Miyazaki has done. Sure the girls receive help, but they also go through a self transformation and come out as stronger individuals in the end. She also dismissed any woman who wore suits and held steely authority as women with balls, and null and void to her argument. They were just men with boobs to her, which I thought was hugely unfair.

Anyway, we went to another panel that made up for the last, and it was Mythology in anime and video games. The guy speaking was an anthropology major working on his dissertation on con attendance in America and anime fandom. He was well spoken, spoke with passion, and made the panel over all really interesting and fun. He's currently running a blog with some of his thoughts about anthropology and anime, which you can find here: http://www.studyofanime.com/ good read, really interesting. I look forward to reading more from him.

We also went to workshops for both Japanese fan dancing, and the Shibari. I didn't participate, but it was interesting to watch both broken down and shown in steps.

Sunday: We got up and left lol. There's nothing going on, so we just checked out, and headed home.

I didn't take any pictures this con, mostly because I just wasn't feeling it. I think a lot of it was that I was hoping to be going to the con as Edgeworth, and when it fell apart, I sulked, and went as Snake instead for the like, fifth year or something. So I think I was just in a sour cosplay mood from that. I didn't even really wear my costume for long. I think my Snake costume is getting retired. I'm sure I'll still use all of the parts of it for other things, but no more going to cons as Snake. Here's what I'm going to try and do for next year:

I'm going to do the gold one, and Chris is going to do the other. I've already talked to my dad to see if we can get the lights in there and get some to work. He can make his own circuit boards, so we'll have to see. Right now he's looking at things, and we're going to try and come up with a materials list and see if it's even feesable. I honestly really want to do this. I think a lot of it is I'm getting more uncomfortable with my face being caught in cameras and put on the internet, so with doing Daft Punk, there's a level of anonymity. I also don't have to worry about if my hair looks good, if my makeup's right, do I have the right face for the character, etc. If I do get this done, I'm sure it's going to end up being my next long lasting costume.

OK, I think this has gotten long enough.
